Two tips to follow when using house removal services

Here are two tips to follow when using house removal services.

Ensure your box labels are detailed and legible

It's important to ensure that the labels you add to your boxes are both detailed and legible. For example, in addition to specifying the type of objects that you've put in a particular box, you might also want to include an arrow that indicates which way up the house removals employees should hold the box (this could be important if the box contains bottles of liquid that might be at greater risk of leaking if they are transported upside down).

Additionally, you might want to write 'fragile' on boxes whose delicate contents you want the removals employees to carry extra-gently, and 'hazardous' on boxes that contain items such as kitchen knives, gardening chemicals or other items that you want the removals workers to keep far away from the items that these hazardous things could contaminate or damage if the boxes they're in break open.

Lastly, you must ensure that any symbols or words you add to the boxes are legible. The best way to do this is to type up and print off the labels, rather than writing them by hand (particularly if your handwriting is quite hard to read). Doing this will ensure the house removals team doesn't misinterpret the words or symbols on the boxes and then either put them in the wrong spot in their van or the new house or have to come to you to ask for clarification.

Keep the house removals' team updated with relevant information

In the day or so before the move, you should ensure that you contact the house removals company and provide them with information if anything happens that might affect the house move. For example, if it snows heavily in the night and on the morning of your move, you find that your driveway is covered in several inches of snow, you should call the removals company right away.

They can then, for example, arrange to show up a couple of hours later than planned so you have time to shovel the snow or, if you cannot do this, they may need to spend some extra time looking for an alternative parking space nearby for their vehicle before they can start moving your things. Having a discussion like this before their arrival will give both you and them time to come up with alternative plans to ensure that the house move doesn't go awry.
